At Amazon: Schlage Camelot Keypad Entry Deadbolt Lock

This is one of my favorite parent hacks...a keyless entry deadbolt for the back door. We have one and it effectively solves the problem of giving distractable kids housekeys. Other problems a keypad deadbolt eliminates:

  • Getting locked out of the house
  • Giving housesitters and others keys to the house (you can give them a unique code you can delete later on)
  • Having to carry keys with you on a quick jog or walk

If you're marginally handy you can install the lock yourself with little more than a screwdriver (if we can do it, most people can).

Today only, this lock (in satin nickel and aged bronze finishes) is in the Amazon Gold Box for 66% off the list price ($79.99).
