Prolonging the life of your jack o'lantern: the experiment!

Look familiar? Pumpkin carving is one task that benefits from a little procrastination -- carve your jack o'lanterns too early and they will be a fuzzy, moldy mess by Halloween.

We have a hack for preserving your pumpkins -- Vaseline -- but MyScienceProject.org actually put a number of methods to the test. Read the full post for details.

Sprinkling cinnamon all over the inside and cut areas also works really well and smells great too.

See that's what I was told too, but then when we did it last year it seemed to rot faster. I blamed it on a bad pumpkin but after reading those experiments I wondered if the cinnamon did our in.
