don't panic - 12 finger tip amputations over 10 years and over 1 million strollers. Given those odds, I would not be surprised to find that it is more dangerous to cross the street.

Is it just me or does this sound slightly ridiculous? If a kid's fingers are near a pushchair as it's being folded or unfolded, then there is a chance the fingers will get trapped and possibly injured. Surely it's the parents' responsibility to keep their kids' fingers out of there?

I tend to agree with both of you in terms of the "don't panic" sentiment, but amputation is amputation. If I were one of those 12 families, I would look at this a lot differently.

I agree, it is the parents responsibility to keep their little ones out of the way of folding objects, but sometimes, especially with a lot of other kids around, accidents happen. There shouldn't be something out there (especially something like a stroller) that can cause damage enough to amputate a finger! On another note, this is such a wonderful site to post recalls! This is really helpful, thank you!

As a parent this recall infuriates me. Expecting a manufacturer to fix a dangerous product is perfectly reasonable. Expecting a manufacturer to allow parents to be careless is not. Simply put, this is a case of the latter. The hinge design that MacLaren uses is intrinsic to almost any umbrella stroller on the planet. What's next? How long until we have parents expecting Ford to recall every Focus built for the last 10 years because a few people slammed their child's hand in the door?

Oh, and yes, I own a MacLaren.
