I happen to be experimenting right now with a gluten-free, dairy-free diet for my son, so I find myself baking EVERYTHING from scratch. I've been eyeing one of these for months, and I've never seen one for sale under $240 (someone correct me if there's a better price out there). My birthday's in a couple weeks...I may just buy this for myself today.

Actually, the artisan stand mixer is the one that normally runs about $300. It has a 5 quart bowl and 325 watt motor. But that is probably a good price for that model.

I paid about $250 for that model about eight years ago, so Congrats on getting a great price. You won't regret it. My Kitchenaid is probably my favorite appliance.

Asha, if you haven't bought this yet, I have a thought you may want to ponder first. I have a 4 1/2 quart mixer and have wished for the last 9 years that I'd registered for the 5-quart one instead. At the time (when I was getting married), the price of the 5-quart one took my breath away, and I couldn't imagine anyone spending that much money on us. (I didn't realize my in laws have some wealthy friends!) Looking back, the 5-quart would have been worth every penny of the difference, as sometimes the 4 1/2 quart size means I can't double a recipe. Also, when I'm letting bread rise, which I do in the mixing bowl (not sure if you can use yeast when going gluten free), it fills the bowl pretty quickly. Just a thought in case you haven't made your purchase yet.

Great deal! But if you're as time-starved as I am please know that there are a lot of Gluten Free pre-made items available out there. Many are also available Dairy Free. The best investment I made when going gluten free was an energy star cubic freezer! I buy pre-made cake blanks to decorate later or pre-made, pre-frosted cupcakes and just freeze them. They last over 6 months and are just as good as the day they went in! I wish I had more time to bake especially for the GF diet, but I would rather use that time to play with my kids!
But bless those of you working hard to keep your family necessarily gfcf.

Asha, one of my BFF's writes a delicious GF (and largely DF) blog. She's quite the foodie, and many of her dishes may be, um, too grownup for a kid, but she LOVES ice cream and has a TON of rec'ps for it.
