In the Parent Toolbox: A slideshow explains Daddy's deployment to Afghanistan
Making the abstract concrete. It's a fundamental part of the teaching we do as parents. But how does one take a huge, scary concept such as a father's military deployment and make it understandable for a toddler and a preschooler?
Kristen Chase of Cool Mom Picks (among many other things) put together this simple slideshow for her little girls to illustrate a few of the details. Amazing and touching. I can only imagine how difficult it must be to explain such a thing, but you can read about it in Kristen's Parent Toolbox blog post.
Other fantastic additions to the Parent Toolbox this week: Mindy's playdate chart and Danny's food allergy log.
Upload your documents to the Parent Toolbox (here's how) and send me a link in the comments of this post. I'll be sure to let everyone know!

What a great idea... something the kids can go back to each time they feel confused or sad, or want to show their friends. I have tears in my eyes...

awesome idea... especially since we have a possibly pending deployment, an almost-3 year old and an almost half-way finished pregnancy!!!
i also love doing "daddy stories"-- we video taped my husband reading stories for my daughter when he deployed (she was 5 months old at the time). she loved them! if he does go again, we're going to tape individual stories with our digital camera so we can choose which specific stories we want to hear.

I really wish my wife and I had thought of something like this when I used to travel all of the time with my other company. Serious kudos in this mom's direction :)
