Momversation: Do you care about diversity in schools?

Momversation

Is diversity a priority for your family?

Do you search for diversity consciously, or is it an afterthought? Karen Walrond of Chookooloonks asks this question as she considers her son's school environment and neighborhood, and Rebecca (Girl's Gone Child) and I respond.

Such a fascinating topic, with connections (I think) to other recent Momversations about making parent friends and traveling with kids. In some ways, "effortless" friendship is easier among homogeneous groups (racially, culturally or economically) as there is already so much in common. But does that deprive our children of the opportunity to experience anything outside their own context?
