Chip clips keep coats on their hangers
Overcoat weather may be a few weeks (or months) away, but Kerry's coat closet hack is ideal for simplifying the comings and goings from and to school:
We've finally graduated from hanging everything on shaker pegs to hanging outerwear on hangers in the coat closet. This works great--- if the person takes the time to snap the top button, zip up the zipper, or position the jacket perfectly on the hanger. My 7 year-old -- hey, even my 37 year old husband-- doesn't bother with that crucial step, so our coat closet is a mess of jackets on the floor.
I finally stumbled on a great solution: chip clips! Put the jacket on the hanger, clip the top of the jacket neck together, and voila-- the jacket stays on the hanger even with all the pushing and shoving of hangers! I buy the ones that have a magnet on them (Oxo sells them for a decent price) so the clip can be affixed to the metal part of the hanger. So far, so good.
Another option: screw hooks at kid height into the closet's interior doorframe. Most jackets have a little hanging loop that can go right over the hook. (Won't help Kerry's husband, though.)
