Amazon Family DVD sale: tons of good stuff
We're movie people. As a matter of fact, my kids are watching Star Wars as I write this, and I feel perfectly happy about the good-and-evil lessons they're learning (while I ogle Han Solo). If you're a movie person, too, you'll appreciate the range of titles Amazon is featuring in its huge Family Fun DVD sale.
There are hundreds of DVDs on sale, many for half-off. Too many for me to list all of my favorites, but here are a few:
The Secret of Roan Inish: A classic Irish folk tale. Beautiful, subtle. Directed by the brilliant John Sayles.
Nanny McPhee: Devilishly funny. And Colin Firth.
Home Alone: Still remarkably entertaining despite being dated. Brilliant slapstick comedy, and the stunts were real.
E. T.: An obvious choice. Still cry every time. In a good way.

I absolutely adore The Secret of Roan Inish. It is an often overlooked gem.

Thanks for posting this, so many great family classics to choose from. I think I need to get Matilda!

Although a little off-topic, I like to hit the local Blockbuster's sell-off table for good DVD deals. They're always having that "4 for $20" sale on previously viewed titles. Since they're selling off extra stock of stuff-that-stopped-being-hot-new-releases, you won't find older titles (like Roan Inish), but I almost always find enough to satisfy my kids (and me).
