Swim fins keep parents afloat while playing in the pool with little kids

Debbie's swim hack nets her some extra exercise and some peace of mind while in the pool with preschoolers:

I wear swim fins when I go swimming with my kids, age 3 and 4. I get exercise simply by keeping my feet off the bottom of the pool, even if the kids are doing nothing but jumping off the side of the pool a zillion times. I don't wear long, elegant snorkeling fins, but the short ones worn by competitive swimmers (e.g. the brand "Zoomers.") The fins provide resistance for my lower body and give me extra power if I need to swim to a child in a hurry.

Two other ways to keep yourself afloat are to use a pool noodle or a deep water aerobic belts. My preference is the pool noodle. For the pool noodle you straddle it, keeping the longer end to the front. When the kids are in the water they can grab the front end of the float and not your neck to keep them above water and they can practice their kicking to the wall.
