Parent Hacks admin: Tending the pipeline

Industrial pipeline by mobilestreetlife I'm at work on the back end of Parent Hacks, trying to build a more efficient system for responding to and pipelining your hacks.

I've tried to stop apologizing about my queue of unpublished hacks (because enough already, I know) but it's still here, waiting to see the light of day. You are incredibly patient, but I still feel bad that people have to wait so long to see their hacks published (or wonder if they will ever be published). The ongoing puzzle my current system doesn't solve is getting your hacks published while managing incoming hacks and queries without overwhelming you with too many posts per day.

The long-term solution will come in the form of a redesign, which is underway right now. But in the meantime, here's what I'm doing:

  • I've divided my email stream among three addresses: hacks@parenthacks.com (for hack and link submissions), reviews@parenthacks.com (for product review requests), and asha@parenthacks.com (for everything else).
  • I've set up some autoresponders to let you know right away what's up when you submit a hack or review request.
  • Most importantly, some wonderful Parenthackers will be contributing to the site, including Adrienne and Jim, hedra, Jill, Kristi, Megin and Heather. More about these folks in an upcoming post!

As always, I want to thank you for all of your incredible hacks and comments. My streamlining and autoresponders do NOT mean I want to be less involved in the conversation here -- just the opposite. I want to spend MORE time with you and less time on the administrivia. You're the ones that make Parent Hacks what it is -- and I am thrilled to be a part of it. (I know, enough already.)

Don't sweat it, Asha... we all know how busy life can get. It might help you to know that a submission to Found Magazine takes a year to show up on the website!

Thanks for the update Asha! I think it shows how much you value parents' input that you are putting so much time and thought into how that can be streamlined.

and now, back to sick toddler. please help me hack the nasty cold that's going around. ei!
