The tv show Scrubs actually did a whole episode on the pediatricians with needles things, where the doctor specifically left the room at shot time so that the child would not identify the man in the white coat as the guy that brings the pain. Dr. Cox, the star of the show, spent the episode going around the hospital trying to find someone to give his child a shot that he personally could have done, but would not, for that exact reason.

Am I alone in finding that pediatrician column awfully condescending? I mean, I agree with most of his points – I think he’s mentioned some solid, common sense kind of stuff. But it also gives me a huge, “a good patient keeps her mouth shut” vibe. Maybe that doctor loves kids, but he sure seems to dislike their parents!

jill: Did we read the same article? Because as a fellow parent I don’t see any reason to be offended by anything he said. It must be so frustrating for a doctor when a parent marches in with a diagnosis they found on WebMD.
