Serve yogurt to-go with a straw

Here’s how Abra keeps the yogurt from spilling in the car:

The only clever thing I have come up with as a parent is serving my daughter’s [soy] yogurt to her with a
straw. She’s somewhat of a picky eater so I take the snack in the car and give it to her after we leave a
class. She sucks it down and at least I manage to get some protein in her. More nutritious than a juice box and more toddler-friendly than using a spoon.

And Abra: I don’t believe for a minute this is the ONLY clever thing you’ve ever come up with as a parent. Sometimes just getting to the end of the day is an act of heroism!

WOW that is ingenious! That should be patented…I will have to try that myself…with picky eaters to-go-yogurt is a great source of protein! And by the way…sometimes the small things you do are the best miracles you make!

Good idea! For the parents (and kids with mature tastes), try this, a mixture of:

    plain yogurt
    water
    pinch of salt
    pinch of dried mint
    ice

It’s called Ayran and is a Turkish recipe. This is the ONLY thing I’ve ever found to stave off my hunger when I’m on the go or want something light.

Oh and never underestimate how fun a bendy straw can be. ;)

We’ve been doing this with great success too – also works for individual servings of applesauce! I try to save all oversized plastic straws from restaurants to make drinking easier.

I have also found that it works great to poke the straw into the tin foil sealing, instead of ripping off the sealing. That way it makes less mess if it spills.

This reminds me of my favorite food/beverage trick: unfold the corners of juiceboxes (in the car of course, but equally smart anywhere) and tell your children to “hold the ears.” Prevents squeeze-squirts and their unpleasant consequences!

    Great idea!
Jamie: I never knew this and we’re nearly past the juice box phase. We have had almost every surface in the car covered in juice. I will definitely remember this tip in the future.
