Let pajamas double as long underwear to save time in the morning

I happened onto a time-saving hack this morning because we had to get out the door early for an appointment. It's cooooold, cold enough that I send my daughter to preschool in a layer of long underwear beneath her clothes. Her long johns and pajamas are interchangable (snug arms and legs) so I simply put her into a pair of clean underpants and her PJs last night, then this morning, popped her clothes on straight over the top. She was dressed in double-time.

My parents were both teachers at the same school and we always had to be at school much earlier than the average kid. Think leaving the house at 6:30 AM to be there by 6:45 so that the other kids could start arriving at 7:00 for supervised play/homeroom type activities until 8:15.

Up until the point where I started really caring about what I looked like (about 5th or 6th grade) my brother and I went to bed completely dressed for school the next day - minus shoes. All we had to do was get up, brush teeth, comb hair, eat breakfast and put on shoes. My mother got 2 kids out the door in appx 15 (awake) minutes for years with that little tip.

If you use the pjs-as-long-underwear idea, I'd strongly recommend using a separate, dry, clean pair of pjs, not the slept-in pair.

People sweat during sleep, so the pjs from the previous night will not keep your child as warm as fresh clothes.

Dude, this is so cool! In fact, during the winter, my daycare provider has Pajama day once a week. It's so cold and the kids get to be comfy!

Great idea! My 6-year-old's PJ pants are so cute, I thought they were adorable (and way warmer) instead of stockings under a dress. She wouldn't do it, though; she thought the other kids would laugh. Oh well, I'm sure it'd work for a younger girl.

Ha ha, we just did this yesterday! My 5 year old refused to take off her jammies so my husband just put on her clothes over them. It worked out well because it's really cold in Ohio right now!

Yep, I do this all the time in the winter.
My four year old daughter loves her short sleeve shirts, so we just put them over the long sleeve pj's.
She's started a trend at the preschool.
