Glue down collars on baby outfits to keep them clean

Fabric glueHilary, you are brilliant. Anything that reduces the amount of laundry is GOOD.

All those baby outfits with collars people gave us were cute, but not helpful at feeding time. The collars inevitably flip up and cover baby's mouth, or get in the way. I got so sick of them, I wanted to cut them all off, but then they wouldn't look cute. So, I tried stitching them down with a couple of stitches. I'm not much of a sewer, so this took too long, and then they ended up coming out after a few washes. So, I used fabric glue and tacked them down at each point and once or twice along the back. After they dried, I laundered them. No more collar stick-ups.

This still works great, even though she's bigger and eats solid food - it helps keep collars out of the way and therefore (hopefully) cleaner.

Brilliant.

Genius! The best hack I've read! I'm going to use it to keep down the flap pockets that get all messed up in the washer!

Napoleon Hacks:
The reason that men's suit jackets have ornamental buttons on the thumb side is that Napoleon put them there, to keep his soldiers from wiping blood and grime off their faces during battle. He liked their clothes to look nice.

Amazing! I am definitely going to go to the store today to get some of this stuff and apply to all of my baby's clothing!

very cool! I will have to try this!

This is a GREAT idea! Samuel's 2 but he has a few shirts that the collars/pocket flaps won't lay right... they will now!!

What a great idea. I didn't even know fabric glue existed...

Thank you

Heh, this is a great old theatre hack too. From that experience, I'll advise that anyone caring about the final look might want to consider ironing the offending flap/collar before gluing it down. Especially for pocket flaps that get all wadded up and deformed in the wash... get 'em good and flat before making them permanent.

I haven't any children and am not planning on having any for a very long time (if ever), but I think frequenting this site is one of the smartest things I could be doing to get educated between now and that fateful day. Thank you so much for this service! I love it and am subscribed to the mini-RSS feed via iGoogle. :)

Hmmm...now I'm thinking of just gluing down the whole toddler to keep her tidy.

Genius! My daughter hated wearing anything with a collar from months 3-9ish. I bet this hack would have changed that.
