Fleece sleep sack works as a swaddler in a pinch

Kiddopotamus Swaddle Me blanketAmy's middle-of-the-night swaddle hack:

My almost 3-month-old daughter, like most infants, sleeps better and longer at night when she is swaddled. We rely on the Kiddopatomus Swaddle Me blankets--we've tried swaddling with receiving blankets, but she gets out of them pretty fast. So anyway, one night she got one her Swaddle Me blankets wet. The spare was in the wash. After her windmill-like arms woke her (and me!) up a few times, I found a solution. I put her in one of her fleece sleep sacks (the kind with sleeves and a zippered pouch for the bottom) but zippered her arms into the body of the sack. Then I tied the sleeves together in a knot across her chest. It was a little bit of a struggle to get her in it, but once her arms were secure, she went right to sleep.

My son was born too small to use even the smallest swaddling blanket, so we resorted to using his sleep sack in much the same way. Since he was very tiny, I would swaddle him first in a receiving blanket, then wrap him up in his sleep sack so he could not become "unswaddled". It really helped keep me sane!

Just want to mention to all those who think your baby will never outgrow the swaddling - they will. Ours did by 5.5 months (a week after we caved and bought the larger swaddling blankets). He just went cold turkey one night.

Great idea on the fleece sleep sack. Will keep it in mind!

Blapher Baby has the Kiddopatumus Swaddle Me Blanket (in the knit fabric) and we can't live without it. It's worked so well, that we've bought the large size.

I highly recommend the Amazing Miracle Blanket. I had both the Miracle Blanket and the Swaddle Me Blanket for my youngest daughter and thought the Miracle Blanket worked much better - it provided a tight swaddle, was escape-proof and didn't have any velcro on it. It is now my standard gift for every new parent I know.
