Heal minor scrapes at the Body Shop
Here's one of the ways veteran Parenthacker Jill (who now goes by Atlanta Jill) soothes owies:
My crying son and his curious friends reminded me of a common hack we use around here: when some part of their body gets hurt (not severe) I offer to take my kids to the Body Shop to choose a new part. We make suggestions (the snake toes, the elephant hand, the tiger head) and very quickly the giggles outnumber the tears and they're ready to play again. I wish I could see a picture of one of my kids with all the animal parts he's picked out over the years!

That's cute- I ordinarily offer to cut the offending part off! I find it usually puts everything into perspective for my daughter but some kids just don't have any idea that I am joking! I'll try your method for my twins!

We normally ignore him until we hear a wail. And then we ask him if he would like us to "Kiss the boo-boo away?" And if he wants us to, we kiss the hurt part and blow it towards a window.
He is almost 3 yo now and it works everytime. Well, last week, he feel off a chair and came up to me, dropped his pants, took his diaper off and told me to "kiss my buttsy."
