How to color rice

Chris (In the Trenches of Motherhood) explains how to color dry, white rice. Why? To transform it into playstuff for tactile indoor fun.

Great idea. It's raining and yucky outside today, maybe during naptime I'll whip up a batch.

The same process works for coloring pasta- don't use water or you get diluted colors - the alcohol evaporates and leaves wonderfully bright colors.

I remember making the colored pasta and then stringing it into necklaces or gluing it into designs on paper plates!

check out the Lookie Loos (via Kiddley http://kiddley.com/2006/10/24/lookie-loos-a-scavenger-hunt-in-your-hand/) for a great idea using coloured rice. I made a couple for my nephews for Christmas and they were a big hit.
