The same process works for coloring pasta- don't use water or you get diluted colors - the alcohol evaporates and leaves wonderfully bright colors.

I remember making the colored pasta and then stringing it into necklaces or gluing it into designs on paper plates!

check out the Lookie Loos (via Kiddley http://kiddley.com/2006/10/24/lookie-loos-a-scavenger-hunt-in-your-hand/) for a great idea using coloured rice. I made a couple for my nephews for Christmas and they were a big hit.
