Teach a kid to use a sewing machine
You can learn to sew, and so can your kid! Instructables has a simple step-by-step tutorial for anyone (including a child) who wants to learn to use a sewing machine.
Don't have a sewing machine? No problem! The tutorial begins with tips for where to buy one, and what to look for in terms of quality and features.

Cool! I didn't learn much about sewing until adulthood, so I appreciate any tips on teaching children sewing.
I can't wait for my son to be old enough for us to enjoy this hack!

My 6-year-old daughter has been wanting to try using my sewing maching, and I've been hesitant. Now I think I can safely give it a try. Of course, once she learns how to use the sewing machine, I'll have to be careful about putting it away so she doesn't try to do it on her own.
p.s. One Hour Craft is a great website - I saw lots of other projects I'd like to try.

I absolutely love One Hour Craft... Between them and Whipup I am never without crafty inspiration... (Since Asha mentioned those extra-crafty Aussies.)

OneHourCraft appears to have vanished. The message I got was: "The authors have deleted this blog. The content is no longer available."
Does anyone know if they have just moved?

I obviously missed that "broken link" comment way back when! I've updated the post with a pointer to Instructables -- really love that tutorial.
