Geocaching: treasure hunting with your GPS
Jay, of The Zero Boss and Parents Behaving Badly, passed along this Silicon Valley Moms Blog post about geocaching...basically GPS-powered treasure hunting. I've never done it myself, but I've known people who've become absolutely addicted, both at home and while on vacation. Nice way for you and your kids to take advantage of the crisp Fall weather...

Geocaching is a great way to get out and enjoy a nice walk... with a 'project' for the kids. Fun on vacation to discover places you never would have otherwise, but also great in your hometown - you'll find neighbourhoods or parks you never knew existed!

Geocaching is a great way to get exercise and see places that you never knew about in your area...I had a cache just a block away from my house! Plus, they have difficulty levels so that you can pick and choose...we'll be taking our daughter on her first cache once the weather gets better, if only to introduce her four month old eyes to new sights.

Ask your kids, "Do you want to go for a walk?" Then ask them, "Do you want to go treasure hunting?"
My 4 year old son and I have been caching for about a month now ... we've had some great quality time together. I cannot recommend it highly enough!
