What to do with the bread crusts your kids won’t eat

A while back we chatted about the problem of uneaten sandwich crusts. Krista chooses not to fight that battle with her kids, and, instead, puts the crusts to good use elsewhere:

I cut off and save the crusts BEFORE I make the sandwich. I then do cool things with the crusts:

  • I dry them out and then pulverize them in the blender for dried bread crumbs.
  • I cut them into bite-sized cubes, toss with olive oil, salt, garlic and italian seasoning, and then toast them in the oven to make croutons.
  • I toast the whole crust stick to make dippers for tomato soup or cream of chicken. Kids love dipping!

Another idea: Bread Pudding! Save the crusts in a Ziploc bag in the freezer till you have enough. (I always freeze my bread.)
