$10 rebate at Amazon Grocery

Speaking of which, Amazon.com now sells groceries (aisle-free!). In fact, they're running a special: $10 off a $49 order of groceries and household products (including diapers) in the grocery store. Enter the code GROCERY2 to get your instant rebate. If you're an Amazon Prime member, or if your order totals more than $25, shipping is free. [Thanks for the heads-up, Chris.]

I'd be careful about these prices. We have Stop And Shop where I live, and they offer the PeaPod service where they'll deliver groceries to you. I just priced a 4 pack of razer blades for a Mach 3 razer and Peapod is $5 cheaper.

Huggies Diapers (size 4) are $.21 each at Amazon (126 count) and $.34 each (52 count) at Peapod.

I don't know what Amazon charges for delivery because it's too dang confusing, but Peapod charges $10 for orders less than $100 and $7 for orders more than $100.

UPDATE: shipping from Amazon is free, apparently.

Peapod manufacturer's coupons (online or give them to the driver) and doubles those under 99 cents. Since my local Stop and Shop doesn't double, that could offset the delivery charge.

Amazon apparently doesn't take coupons.

The trick with this (as with any other service or store) is to know your products and be an informed shopper. In many cases, if you buy bulk items and have an Amazon Prime membership, you will definitely see some savings. But, buyer beware. Watch the prices, pay attention in you rlocal Sams or Costco and do the math.

Wow. Cool. Thanks! We don't have grocery delivery service in our area.

We dont either, Shannon - that's why I was glad to hear that Amazon was carrying groceries and other household goods. I order books and merchandise from them quite often, and the shipping is super quick to my area... so I am interested in trying this out.

Have any of you placed an order at Amazon Grocery yet - and if so, what did you think of the overall experience?

I gotta say, I'm not so impressed with amazon grocery. I love amazon and have ordered my share of things from them in the past. I was pretty interested in their groceries, but my first order has not gone well. I ordered 4 items: regular booty, fruity booty, annie's microwave mac & cheese, and pacific foods microwave rice. Shipping was free and the prices were decent compared to what I pay in regular grocery stores. The quantities are pretty large, but I go through a lot of those things, so I figured it would be okay. First of all, none of the stuff shipped together. I placed my order on 7/1. The regular booty was shipped on 7/3 and arrived shortly thereafter. Of the 12 bags, 7 of them were open. It looked like they had been squeezed during shipping, though they were well-packed, so maybe it was an altitude change thing. I complained, and amazon quickly sent out another box, which also arrived with some bags open. The fruity booty shipped on 7/7 and arrived just fine. I've yet to receive the rest of the order. Apparently the rice shipped on the 19th. The mac & cheese, which my daughter can't seem to get enough of, hasn't shipped and isn't scheduled to until the middle of August. I find this quite disappointing. A month and a half (unless it ends up delayed even more) to get my groceries? I don't think so. I think I'll pass on their groceries from now on. Some of their prices were a little better, but not enough better to have to go through that much. BTW, their quantity of booty (12 bags in a box) is way more than anyone needs at any given time. :-)
