Cinnamon sugar apples
I happen to know that Kate (author of the divine motherhood zine Miranda) is a great cook, because she's made me lunch on more than one occasion. I now expect this for dessert the next time I see her (do you hear me, Kate?):
I don't know if this qualifies as a hack, but a few weeks ago I got the idea to sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar shaker (previously reserved strictly for toast) over a bowl of sliced apples. The boys love it. The sugar is minimal but knowing it's there transforms what they used to consider a ho-hum snack into a big treat.

yum yum! we love this over baked apples, too. or bananas. coconut. any fruit, frankly!
however we use stevia, since sugar makes us crazyyyy!

Perhaps my house is odd, but although I'm quite tight with sweet treats, I'm willing to put a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar (or colored sugar esp. at Xmas) on just about anything. Want cinnamon sugar on your broccoli? If a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down....

I use this trick all the time - especially good on fruit that can be a bit tart (like peaches) and excellent on butternut squash!

I do it with just the cinnamon- no sugar and it tastes just as good if your apples are sweet.

I'm with Sarah, because I'm spazzy about adding sugar to anything naturally sweet. I put cinnamon on sliced bananas, and now that my girl's five she can do it herself! And begs for them!
