Uniden phone doubles as baby monitor
I was going to write about this Uniden phone myself -- we use it here at home -- but Neal already did a great job of it on his own blog.
Here's a link to an entry a few months ago about a great set of phones. They are perfect for families, especially if you have little ones. In my blog, I include a link to Amazon, but you can find the same product at places like Staples or Best Buy.
My (Asha's) only problem with the room monitor function is that it rings twice when you activate it -- not so good when it's sitting next to the baby's crib. We leave it just outside our daughter's bedroom door, and it doesn't bother her, but I could see it being an issue for lighter sleepers or reluctant nappers.

We have the uniden phones, and use the baby monitor function. You can turn off the ringer on the remote unit (not the base station), so we keep the base in the kitchen and the remote in the bedroom. Works like a charm. We've been very happy with our Uniden phones.

We have a set of the Uniden 2.4 GHz phones (less expensive - but yes they might interfere with wireless networks as Neal mentions) and I definitely agree they're decent phones, great as baby monitors, good quality, good speakerphone (nice when someone calls during a diaper change) and other features!
Like Bob, we turn off the ringer on the "baby's room" unit. We also have the answering system (DCT 6485) as the base unit, which has a "do not disturb" button that turns off all ringers (but people can still leave a message) - great for when baby's asleep (or when we are, for that matter)!!

I haven't had the problem you mentioned, Asha - when I activate the monitor function the phone in the monitored room doesn't make a sound. Could be a setting that you have turned on, or that I am tone deaf.
