For babies (under about 18 months), we've found that the dollar store is a great boon for non-toy toys... such as a plastic soap dish or a toothbrush holder. My 10-month old LOVES his (tubular shaped) toothbrush holder because he discovered it doubles as a whistle.

As a non DVD-car family, we've found that a few dollars can make a road trip so much better. But be sure to save some surprises for the ride home! Our most successful were party favor blowers and a foam basketball on an elastic cord we could put around their wrists. We were given a fun 2" heart for Valentines Day that turned into a full sized washcloth when it got wet. Easter baskets may see something similar!

Check out Wal Mart, too! They have some great 88 cent deals in the toy department.
