Premium vs. generic diapers, con't
Sean has this to add about the premium/generic diaper debate:
One way to address the premium/low-cost diaper dilemma is to use both. If you are in the habit -- during the day -- of changing diapers as soon as there's a poop or before there's too much pee, there's little downside of the low-cost diapers. You don't need the super absorbency of the premium diapers. (This applies if your daycare/nanny/etc. changes diapers frequently, too.) Save the premium diapers for overnight, when the risk of a pee leak is greatest.
Who knew people want to talk about diapers so much?

Couldn't agree more... plus at Daycares... who is to say that your "premium" diapers are switched for those less prestigious diapers.
We have had great results with the Kroger (Grocery Store) Brand and Sam's Club brand diapers and are cheaper than Huggies, Pampers and Luvs.
Haven't tried 7th Generation, but would love to be a little kinder to Mommy Earth.

Who knew? I'll tell you this, if I knew there was going to be this much crotch sniffing, I wouldn't have become a parent.
Just kidding. My wife and I use store brand for daily wear as well. What we discovered is that part of the problem with leaking diapers at night was that we were putting the kid down with an entire sippy of water. Half a sippy seems to be plenty (she's not waking up thirsty, or anything), and keeps the amount of pee to a diaper-manageable level. We're thinking of moving to store brand at night as well as during the day. Of course, we have a second child on the way, so we get to take all we learned (read: screwed up) the first time around and apply it.

We had success with most brands except Luv's. Not because they didn't absorb but as soon as he got active, they ripped at the seams a lot. Diaper stuffing everywhere. That sucks.

We've had problems of various sorts with all brands except for Pampers Swaddlers/Cruisers. Since we buy these in bulk and have a huge pile of coupons for them, they wind up not being much more expensive than generics - and well worth the small difference, for us, anyway.

We've used the Kroger store brand almost exclusively since the beginning. We're extremely proactive about diaper changes and have only had one or two leaks even overnight. The only brand that we have been seriously unhappy with were the regular huggies. The second time we changed a diaper to find bits of the absorbent gel on our daughter's skin we discarded the remainder of the package and have sworn never to use them again.

I must admit that I am disappointed that the savings at Costco on a case of their Kirkland diapers versus Huggies isn't larger. Here, on a case of size 4s, the price is the same, and there are only ten measly more diapers in the Kirkland case. I think I'd only be saving something like $1:50 if I bought those instead of the Huggies.

After being somewhat of a Pampers devotee, I was delightfully surprised with the new Target store brand of diaper. The fact that they cost significantly less than Pampers doesn't hurt either.

we use cloth and fancy no-gel diapers for our kid. We use the no-gels when we go out and for night. We would gladly use off brands but our little pal gets rashy from the gel diapers. With our current practice we have had no rashes. The no-gels are very absorbant and fabulous. I have heard from a friend that her baby wears 2-3 diapers a day but that seems kind of gross. All that pee hanging around the babys waist for 8+hours.

I use White Cloud from Walmart. If you buy the boxs instead of the plastic packaging, it's actually cheaper than the next cheapest diapers. I've used Luvs before, but they leaked. I'm happy with the cheap diapers.

In Australia, Aldi store brand nappies are great, we have not had any problems using them day and night.

I have discovered that generic diapers (Wal-Mart Dri-Bottoms) work fine for my child. At night I still use generic but in a size larger, so there is more diaper to absorb moisture. This is actually more cost effective than buying a name brand for night time.

I love the Target brand diapers! We used the Walmart brand until he grew out of them. It seems as thought the Walmart brand runs a little on the smaller side but the Target brand is great. My little guy, who is 16 months, is quite the pee'r at night, so we buy the Pull-up overnights for boys and I dont have to change the sheets everyday.

I can't stress enough to people how easy it is to hold your baby over the potty before a diaper change, when they start to make poopy faces, and after they feed. If you catch a fraction of poops/pees, you'll use fewer diapers. I know a lot of people are afraid of poopy diapers in cloth. I have to say, my baby pretty much only poops in her diaper at night/early morning, and when we have been out of the house for a long time: these are the times I use disposibles. It's easy to condition your baby to try to poop every time you change a diaper or hold them over the potty. We started at 2 1/2 weeks, and now I can't imagine why anyone (at home) would put a clean diaper on a baby without double checking to see if that diaper was going to be instantly soiled. You don't have to be obsessive to benefit from using a little elimination communication.

I used generic as long as I could but it got to a point where my children's body type (long and lean) really honestly didn't fit the generics any more. It would fall off or not hold anything at all. So when they get to about 2.5, I use pampers cruisers. By that point they've generally gotten down to just 2 or 3 a day anyway so it's not as much of a difference.

I used to only use Huggies for our son because we never had a leak with them. Money has become tight so I decided to quit throwing money away on diapers and bought Luvs, which a friend had recommended. They must use a lot of perfume in them because my son broke out in a rash immediately. We are now using Target brand and I couldn't be happier with them! We never have a leak or rash.
